Getting Parents to Stay Home!

It's official. The tables have turned. And I'm not really a big fan of this side of things!

My parents are in their 70's. My in-laws are closer to 80 (+). The Covid-19 virus seems to take people over 65 down pretty quickly. These are the facts I am working with. It seems to me those facts lead to a pretty solid self-quarantine for anyone over 65...for safety sake, of course.

Meanwhile, my parents are going out for coffee, shopping with friends, and still haven't stocked up the pantry! My in-laws are going out every day with someone, shopping, doing returns, participating in yet another Costco run.

I've said it. Nicely. "Please stay home."

I've said it less nicely, "You really need to just stay home".

I've said it as a question, "Are you seriously going out?!?"

And yet...nothing. Well, not exactly nothing.

I get a response. I just don't like it.

"Oh, it's just for a bit.",

"I won't touch anything.",

"I'm just going to stay in the car."

Yeah, right.

I'm starting to believe that the Covid-19 virus might just be a way for our parents to get even with us.

I think they might be getting even for:

- those evenings when they questioned who I went out with, where I was going, and how long I was going to be.

- those rolled eyes I dished out, and the snarky answers I used as a retort.

- those missed curfews, ignored suggestions, and disregarded advice.

Come to think of it, there are quite a few things to get even for! (at least for me)

So, I guess the best thing I can do is follow their example, as I attempt to curb their enthusiasm for life.

When I wanted to live by my own rules, they...

Gave me grace.

Kept communicating.

Supported me no matter what.

Never stopped loving me...

and made sure I knew it.

Considering that, I hope that one day I will be able to get "even" with them.

Take care of yourself.

Take care of your family.

Love them all.

Kim

P.S. The governor’s lockdown has helped for those living in California. At least a little!
